En çok Türkçe kelime Sırpçada Olduğunu Biliyormusunuz! Hatta Sırplar, doğu ve İslam hayranlığı ile tanınan Sırp şair Jovan Llic'in şiirlerini anlayabilmek için Türkçe sözlük kullanıyor.
Fatih Üniversitesi'nin düzenlediği Osmanlı-Balkan ilişkileri konulu panele katılan Belgrad üniversitelerindeki akademisyenler, iki ülke arasındaki birçok bilinmeyene ışık tuttu. Belgrad Üniversitesi Türkoloji Bölümü Öğretim Görevlisi Ord. Prof. Dr. Mirjana Teodosiyeviç, Sırpçada deyimlerle birlikte 10 bine yakın Türkçe kelimenin bulunduğunu, bunların 3 bininin günlük dilde yaygın şekilde kullanıldığını söyledi.
Belgrad Üniversitesi kütüphanesinde bulunan 17 bin Doğu dilleri kitabından 4 bin 500'ünün Türkçe başlıklı olduğuna dikkat çekerek, Türkçe ile Sırpçanın yazıldığı gibi okunması özelliği açısından birbirine çok benzediğini belirtti. Türk dilinin 1925'ten itibaren Sırbistan'daki üniversitelerde okutulduğunu anlatan Türkolog, sözlerini şöyle sürdürdü: "Sırbistan'da Türkoloji bölümünden şimdiye kadar 500 mezun verdik. Şu an ise 200 öğrenci öğrenim görüyor. Özellikle turizm için Türkiye'ye gelen öğrenciler Türkoloji bölümünü daha fazla tercih ediyor."
